We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Planner to join our Audience Planning team focused on BBC Studios.

BBC Studios is a powerhouse of bold British creative content, leading the way in creative storytelling. It is known and loved around the world for the quality of its programmes and makes exciting content, across a range of genres, from Strictly Come Dancing to Doctor Who, Luther, EastEnders, Holby, Casualty, Top Gear, Glastonbury, BBC Proms, Mrs Browns Boys, Planet Earth II, Countryfile, Springwatch, Bargain Hunt and The One Show. It is critical for this role that the successful candidate is interested in making BBC Studios successful.

BBC Planners work to put audience insight and strategy at the heart of the BBC’s output (programmes, products, services and brands). Planners provide creative leadership - clarifying objectives, driving action plans, articulating challenges in useful ways, spotting opportunities and thinking strategically about cultural, media and social trends - helping to inspire and direct the creative energy of what is one of the most creative businesses in the word.

Role Responsibility

Partnered with a Research Manager, and working closely with members of the BBC Studios leadership team, this Senior Audience Planner will help set up the BBC Studios business for future success in a dynamic global content market that is both richer in opportunity and more demanding in terms of quality than ever before.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work with production leads to bring about best in class development on priority genres, inspiring programme makers, integrating digital and bringing a culture of prototyping and testing to the changing world of television production.
  • Lead on major strategy projects to help establish an audience-focused, and commercially competitive business as it establishes its optimum approach and structure.
  • Find pithy and inspiring ways to ensure that market and audience intelligence are at the heart of commercial and creative decision making among both senior stakeholders and the wider production community.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will find opportunities for working with the other audience planners from across the BBC Group, and will continue to support the week-to-week needs of the Studios business as appropriate.

You will be a strategic thinker with the ability to manage projects from conception to completion. This will include strong knowledge of media consumption and behavioural trends. You will have worked in a creatively led business at a senior level to develop audience-focused strategies. In addition you’ll have a solid understanding of how to understand and apply qualitative and quantitative research, develop creative stimulus, facilitate ambitious creative conversations and hone creative briefs.

We want you to be someone who is engaged within the youth market with a strong understanding of the culture and brands that appeal to young audiences.  Above all else, we’re looking for some who is passionate about media, TV and storytelling.
