Description

The Marketing Manager,works with teams across Europe, Africa and the UK, to understand the most pressing challenges & opportunities in the region, planning and delivering effective marketing campaigns and activities to address these needs, in line with annually set marketing objectives.

This is a stand-alone marketing role which is a highly autonomous role, with a wide geographical reach - so it is essential the marketing manager is able to identify in which areas marketing can drive the most value, and think creatively about how to address these areas, within the resources given. This can be done many ways, and the successful candidate needs to be comfortable thinking outside the box to formulate a vision for their marketing plan – and has the application to make it a reality.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Understand local market needs working with local teams and through international visits

  • Use market and customer insights to create an annual marketing plan that identifies needs and prioritises marketing activities, based on potential returns

  • Effective management of the Marketing budget, with clear targets that are then measured, evaluated, and feed into future spending decisions.

  • To work with local marketing teams, or on own initiative to implement a range of digital and traditional tactical marketing activity e.g. promotional collateral, exhibitions, events, newsletters, advertisements, direct mail, sales support material

  • Respond to internal and external changes, managing customer communications to ensure key messages are effectively relayed and understood.

  • Build relationships with local teams and UK product teams, to ensure we work effectively together, and information flows between internal stakeholders.

  • Provide effective marketing advice and support as necessary

  • Monitor and collate competitor and market intelligence, carrying out relevant market research to underpin marketing planning and activity and identify business development opportunities

  • Be a brand champion for Europe & Africa, driving the quality and consistency of application of the Pearson brand and sub-brands.

The Marketing Manager will work within the Europe and Africa Portfolio Team, reporting to the Portfolio Director, and oversee and annual budget for activities.

All written and spoken communications are in English. Some external communications will be in the local language when it is required to engage particular target groups, so will require working with translators.

The role is based in London, and the marketing manager will spend 2-3 days per week in each of Pearson’s London offices (One90 High Holborn and 80 Strand). Some travel to our Oxford office as well as internationally across Europe & Africa will be required to build relationships with local Pearson teams, gain insights into customer needs, and oversee events. However, due to the international nature of the role, the working pattern is flexible, and many meetings will be conducted via video call.

Qualifications

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years marketing experience

  • One of: Marketing degree; Professional Marketing qualification (such as a CIM Diploma); or additional Marketing experience

Essential requirements:

  • Budget management experience

  • Experience of working in an international role

  • B2B marketing

  • Ability to set and execute marketing strategy

  • Experience working autonomously and in matrix structures

Desired experience/skills:

  • Business development experience is desirable

  • Education experience, particularly marketing to educators

  • A high standard of spoken and written English is essential, with effective copy writing needed for marketing communications.

  • Additional languages are a plus, especially Spanish, Arabic or Swahili

  • Candidates who can demonstrate a proven appetite for learning, through attainment of other related professional qualifications, will be well received.
