Description of Role and Key Responsibilities

This is a ‘hands-on-role’ within the Corporate and Institutional Bank business divisions. The core purpose is to help enforce a collaborative Investec Corporate and Institutional Banking strategic approach – identifying through careful insight and analysis a clear Go to Market approach for UK and global reach.

Strategic Planning & Insight

  • Support the business leadership teams in driving a clearly defined business strategy. This requires attending and helping drive (and influence) key board discussions with detailed financial services knowledge, client mapping and analysis
  • Work closely with the business to establish a clear strategic plan that focuses on core messaging platform, client acquisition and retention strategies. Embedded in this should be tactical quarterly activity alongside longer-term planning vision
  • Develop plans that engage at a regional, domestic and global scale – understanding the geographical marketing, media and communication platforms
  • Initiate and build strategic partnerships with chosen bodies – this could be media, industry bodies or research organisations
  • Develop and plan a key strategy that considers all stakeholder audiences – employees, clients, influencers and media – adapting strategic approach against key areas
  • Work alongside data and insight teams (and with third parties where relevant) ensuring current and future predictive analytics shape the marketing and business strategy
  • Drive a proactive approach to monitoring and engaging / shaping marketing approach around core metrics with the client, employee and market voice
  • Client advocacy management is a key part of the role – understanding how analytics and the client referral approach can help shape our marketing direction
  • Work in partnership with the delivery lead to ensure that the delivery of the defined Investec Corporate and Institutional Bank marketing strategy is strong
  • Responsible for delivery of the defined Investec Corporate and Institutional Bank marketing strategy, with a particular focus on client acquisition and the integration of online and offline marketing activities.
  • Define the budget and resource allocation required to deliver the marketing strategy and tactics.
  • Measuring the outcomes of marketing initiatives against budgets, identifying key measures of success, and adapting strategy in line with outcomes of market and client segmentation analysis
  • Leadership of internal storyboard for the Corporate and Institutional Bank  Exco – helping shape the platform
  • Develop clear client communication plans that link in mandatory, BAU and creative channels to market

Campaign and Theme Led Marketing Strategy

  • Develop a proactive quarterly, theme led approach to the Investec Corporate and Institutional Bank marketing – one that drives a high level ‘market story’ underpinned by research-led, client relevant themes. Ensure that the strategic marketing plan consistently drives a core platform to our key audiences
  • Manage and develop core bold and differentiated market messages – that positions us as ‘out of the ordinary’
  • Responsible for our sponsorship strategic direction, aligning the Corporate and Institutional Bank  brand story to those that resonate with our objectives and target reach
  • Lead and drive our client engagement content strategy – linking closely to core themes and managing custom publisher agreements
  • Ensure consistency in the look and feel of the Investec Corporate and Institutional Bank message, as well as compliance with Investec brand standards
  • Manage the creative messaging campaign approach with our core agencies – ensuring that best practice constantly being adhered to
  • Ensure that the Investec Corporate and Institutional Bank marketing strategy is aligned with Group Strategy and that the Investec Corporate and Institutional Bank marketing team leverages off group resources and best practice
  • Develop a good relationship with other divisional marketing to ensure cross sales & marketing approach against targeted audiences

Manage and Develop the Strategy Marketing Team

  • Mentoring and guidance of senior strategist and planners
  • Ensure that project prioritisation right within the strategy and delivery teams


Core Skills and Attributes

Technical Competencies:

  • Strong, well evidence background in senior leadership/board level strategy, planning and analysis marketing
  • Excellent experience in initiating, creating and driving above the line and below the line creative campaigns – from leading value proposition workshops with the business through to message development and implementation of campaigns
  • Ability to project prioritise around core strategic business objectives
  • Experience of strategic planning across marketing, media and communication channels (including strong digital strategic knowledge)
  • Demonstrable experience of acquisition and retention marketing strategy development in a B2B environment
  • Good experience of agency supply management – working across multi-agencies to help develop core campaign work
  • Management of industry strategic partnerships – initiating, driving and implementing key business strategic agreements
  • Strategic value proposition development – experience of working with senior business leaders to develop Go to Market Strategy against divisional level business objectives
  • Strong understanding of financial services marketplace
  • Clear understanding of marketing regulatory requirements and operations process management – including marketing preferences, client communications mandatory (including onboarding marketing), GDPR2 and other core divisional requirements
  • Understanding of CRM strategic divisional engagement requirements and the link to strategic planning
  • Excellent skill set in data and research management – linked to segmentation analysis
  • Experience in developing messaging platforms at a divisional and product level, influencing business strategy
  • Good understanding of client advocacy and skill set of implementing referral scheme such as NPS
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across a diverse audience – internal and external
  • Strong experience of client content engagement strategy – managing custom publisher agreements, developing theme based quarterly plans and aligning this with the client needs
  • Commercially minded approach to marketing – driving clear strategic budget priorities linked to clear ROI goals
  • Creative skill set and a good understanding of brand management
  • Initiate employee engagement channels to ensure strategic marketing plans are embraced across a division
  • Experience of working across both domestic and global client audiences, tailoring marketing strategies accordingly
