Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the University of Cumbria is one of the UK’s newest universities; but has a long tradition for educating professionals dating back over 150 years. The university is one of the largest providers of teacher education in the UK, is a major provider of healthcare studies, has the largest outdoor studies department in Europe. During the 10 years the university has developed an Institute of Education, Institute of the Arts, a business school, a graduate school and seven research centres to its expanding portfolio. The new Director will be joining at a pivotal time – with a relatively new Vice Chancellor and a new corporate strategy, you will play a significant role in determining the future success of the University. You will be responsible for delivering a new marketing and student recruitment strategy designed to deliver growth through improved student recruitment, the development of a new and innovative brand & student proposition and all supporting marketing collateral. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer you will have operational responsibility for a team of highly-regarded marketing professionals providing innovative, flexible and the most up to date marketing & communications solutions to a highly complex organisation and range of internal & external partners.
Educated to degree level or equivalent, and possessing a relevant professional qualification you will have significant senior management experience of leading equivalent marketing services to large and complex organisations. Not necessarily from a higher education background you will however have a passion and empathy for the university sector and relevant student and employer markets. A flexible and inspirational manager you will have highly developed interpersonal skills, an ability to form effective partnerships across a diverse stakeholder group, proven change management skills and a track record of delivering against challenging KPIs. You will have developed new brands, implemented effective CRM and applied the latest marketing techniques with highly successful results.
