Job Description

The University of Derby is a modern, progressive and highly ambitious university with a proud civic history and an outstanding reputation for providing high-quality teaching, delivering impactful research and innovation, and producing exceptional, industry ready graduates.

Ranked as one of the top 250 young institutions in the world, we have been awarded the highest level for teaching standards and was recently named University of the Year in the UK Social Mobility Awards.

With an income of c£180 million and employing approximately 3,000 academic and professional staff, we are a successful institution with ambitious plans for growth and development. Our bold corporate strategic framework represents a new chapter and real opportunity to build on our success and investment.

As a key member of our SMT, you will join us at a time of growing momentum and will be responsible for a broad range of professional service departments including Student Recruitment, Marketing, Corporate Communications, Development & Alumni Relations and Admissions.

Tasked with the strategic leadership and operational management of such critical services, you will play an instrumental role in helping us achieve our corporate ambitions. Specifically, you will work closely with senior academic and professional colleagues delivering integrated activities that establish a strong and impactful brand with high-quality outputs directed at all of the University’s diverse and numerous stakeholders.

As a data driven strategic thinker able to realise corporate ambitions through the application of innovative digital marketing and communications techniques, you will be able to strike an effective balance between big-picture thinking and operational management imperatives from experience gained at a senior leadership level in other highly successful large and complex organisations.

Whilst experience of higher education is not essential, you must have an appreciation of the challenges and opportunities currently faced by the university sector during a period of unprecedented change, with the desire to provide wide access to transformative education with real world impact.

As a technical expert with either a relevant degree or professional qualifications, you will possess excellent interpersonal leadership qualities and the ability to be a collegiate influencer at a strategic level.

In return, you will enjoy a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement, performance related pay and the opportunity to join a contributory pension scheme.
