The Role

The primary role of the Business Development Manager is to support the Head of Sales & Marketing deliver the company's strategic plan for Business Development, it's marketing plan and to work to continually improve our market position and achieve financial growth.

You will build key customer relationships and identify new business opportunities to pass to the relevant Consultant/Team to further negotiate and agree the details, as well as maintaining and sharing extensive knowledge of current market conditions. You will report directly to the Head of Sales & Marketing, and work with the Consultants and marketing team to exploit all opportunities for revenue growth and also to support our new managed services offering.

Key Responsibilities

Your overarching responsibility is to identify and engage with potential new customers in an appropriate manner, converting a high proportion of these into 'briefing' clients who continue to utilise our services into the future.

Your role will be varied and busy in all areas of sales and marketing activities. Your responsibilities will therefore include, but not be limited to:

New Business Development

  • Cold call as appropriate within targeted sectors to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities
  • Research, arrange meetings and build relationships with potential clients to grow, maintain and leverage our network
  • Plan persuasive approaches and pitches - working with the marketing and Consultant teams to develop proposals that speak to the client's needs, concerns, and objectives
  • Work with engaged clients to turn this engagement into briefs received (new business) for the relevant Consultant
  • Identify potential clients, and the decision makers within the client organisation, and determine and implement a contact strategy that is appropriate to them, utilising market and client knowledge
  • Helping the appropriate consultant to negotiate with new clients
  • Write and create sales presentations and pitches

Client Retention

  • Present new products and services as appropriate to enhance existing relationships
  • Ensure you are best informed to offer new solutions that meet customer needs
  • Maintain awareness of existing clients where we both have and have not succeeded in making a placement, to understand reasons and learn for the future

Management and Research

  • Submit weekly progress reports and analysis
  • Maintain visibility of Consultant activity on accounts, and help to close deals to meet these targets where relevant
  • Ensure that relevant marketing collateral levels are maintained

Key Skills Required

  • Ideally you will have worked within the recruitment arena but this is not essential
  • Evidence of consistently achieving or exceeding quarterly and annual revenue targets
  • Experience of sales negotiations, managing bids, tenders and pitches
  • Evidence of having actively generated and followed up on leads converting them to future revenue generating opportunities
  • Excellent long-term client and candidate relationship skills, whilst being persuasive when required
  • A demonstrably high degree of ethics and integrity, and a connection with our mission and values
  • A sound understanding and experience of forecasting and reporting
  • Interpersonal skills enabling you to build trust among the fee-earning team, wider stakeholder community and across your network
  • High energy, positive attitude and entrepreneurial spirit
  • An organised and professional approach, with the ability to work to demanding timeframes
  • Strong commercial acumen and be tenacious in your approach
  • An honest, open and collaborative style
  • Experience of working with email marketing packages, content management systems would be preferred
  • Good research skills and be confident in managing and analysing data
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Any other duties as and when required
